Saturday, May 17th – Pitch directions and information.

May 15, 2008

Hey boys,

The pitch is booked on Saturday, May 17th, from 3:30pm – 5:00pm.

Eric, you’ll have to break the piggy bank to pay Jose.

Here are the directions to the mini-football pitch. It’s in MS Word format (.doc) and you can just print it to go. Includes maps and the address in Hangeul. (If there is a problem with the file, contact me: 010-7794-4067)

Jose has also posted the driving direction on the forums:

Take the main road to Gwangyang from Suncheon and as soon as you get to Delim area (where all the love motels are) you make a left. From there you take the first right (next to the use car dealership) and go all the way until you see the ugly aparments then make a left then a quick right around the aparment complex and you wil see the field in the other side. There is a green coffee shop and a mini-golf range next to it.

I assume the people that are coming will take a taxi, so just print it off and show it to the taxi driver.

Enjoy!!

Football pitch – information

May 13, 2008

Hello ladies,

Here’s the most recent email list for SIFC. If I’m missing anyone or anything, let me know.

Ok, so Jose and I went out to Gwangyang to check out a football pitch. It’s a small artificial futsal/indoor soccer type pitch for a 7-a-side game. It’s perfect size for our whole team + extra people, to practice quick passing, dribbling, fitness and endurance.
The prices: 30,000won/hour NO lights (day time)
50,000won/hour LIGHTS ON (evening – closes at 10pm)

They have more offers and I’ll get Jose to translate them or whatever.

Here is a picture of what it looks like. I took it from my cell, so excuse the low quality.

The pitch is about 15minutes from Shidae and about 10 minutes from Elvis bar, heading towards Gwangyang.

Anyway, we’re planning on booking it for an hour (or more if need be) this SATURDAY May 17th, probably in the morning or late afternoon. (Reply on the forums with your opinions)

ALSO, we have a game on May 24th, so we probably would need during  next week, probably on a Wednesday or Thursday evening.

Alrighty, that’s it. Please reply on the forums with your opinions and we’ll do our best to get it at a good time.

Peace ya’ll.

Gwangju game canceled

May 6, 2008

Hey all,

Daragh has informed me that the game on the 21st June has now been canceled. The Busan tournament clashes with that date, so we might have to reschedule with them.

Also, any news from Tim, Jeff, Dan King?

May 10th, 2008 – Game on!

May 3, 2008

Hey all,

We’ve got a team booked for May 10th. We played them a month ago on the Jorye Elementary field. Daragh spoke with them and they’re super keen to play us. They’ve also been informed about the money and will give us 40,000won.

So yea, boots down everyone! :)

Speaking of Boots Down, has anyone contacted him?

May 3, 2008

Hey all,

Daragh is in talks with the Gwangju team for a possible game on June 21st, Saturday. Time unknown.

They say they’ll get a ‘decent’ pitch for us.

Just a heads up for now, keep that day free if possible.  Leave comments on the Forums or here.

Cheers!

Happy Children’s Day y’all!

More information:

May 2, 2008

Hi Guys,

After are long wait we are ready to begin playing again! We had a meeting last night and decided on a few things. Firstly, we have 2 dates booked at the soccer pitch across from Palma stadium in Suncheon. We will play there on Saturday May 10th and Sat May 24th between 9am and 12 noon. The pitch costs 80 won per session (40 bucks cheaper than our last home ground) but is booked on a provisional basis. It is much cheaper than our last place because the local government owns it and can suddenly cancel all activities if they have a city wide event on such as a city school day etc so we’ll see how it goes for the first 2 dates. We are looking for one team to play us on the 10th and to have a few drills between 9 and 10pm each matchday. We will focus on fitness training midweek (it’s too dangerous playing on those bumpy pitches) and intend on starting with an intense jogging session in Suncheon at 6.30pm Tuesday. Every match day we can then practice drills, 3-touch passing etc on a safe surface for an hour before our game. Daragh will post up more info about the opposition when it’s available. We also intend charging our opposition like last time and with one team visiting should aim for 40 bucks with us footing the bill for water melons and water. We’ll really need the refereshments this time of year!
Eric is our new Treasurer and since he’s a closet Scouser could run away with the funds at any given moment! 160 bucks has to come out of the kitty for the 2 dates we’ve booked but we can expect to get back at least half that from the opposition. Our current financial status will be published by Daragh (as he currently has our funds) before being passed on to Eric who will then carry out our quarterly report. Alroy is the new Kitman and will wash your jocks if he can smell them first! Our 2 rather underused coaches, Daniel and Daragh, will become more involved in running training sessions and mathchday selection. Daniel and myself will run Saturday 10ths drills, Daragh and myself on the 24th. All 3 of us will not play at the same time (2 in one out) as we need someone to be able to call shots from the sideline. We have several new members ready to sign up and will add more money to our kitty. The Busan tournament is on June 14th & 15th and we would have to send a serious team down there to compete with the likes of Busan Utd and Seoul FC. We may have to poach some really strong Korean players over the next few weeks???? Our Yeosu members are in discussions about joining us for the tournament so we’ll know more after the long weekend. May 10th is Welshy’s last game and he will be honourary captain for the day. Bring some earplugs! Haydar has returned to our team and we hope to have a great spirit for the second half of the season!! –

**NEW**Football Information – 2008 Season!

May 2, 2008

Hey all,

Thanks to those who made it out to last night’s meeting. As we discussed, Eric will now be the Treasurer for the club and I’m going to be the kit man. ( I still have the duties to update the website and I got the soccer vests in my hands) If there are any volunteers for kit man, I’d appreciate it.

That being said, the new season is going to start May 10th. We have the Palma ground booked from 9am-12pm. It’s a grass(or artificial turf) pitch. We’re looking at getting a team (or two) to play us. We are fully aware that it’s the long weekend, but it’s all done at noon, so you’ll still have time to travel.

We’ve also booked that pitch for May 24th (or as Canadians would say “May 2-4″) 9am -12pm.

Also, this was brought up later in the meeting; we’re going to be changing a lot of our training set up. Getting back to basics. No complicated drills. Just simple stuff.
__________________________________________________________________

Our first training session will take place on Tuesday, May 6th. We’re meeting at Kim’s Club at 6:30pm. Please wear comfortable running shoes, no football cleats necessary. If you’re working in a hagwon, don’t worry. We’ll try to arrange some practices on the weekends too.

Peace out

SOS Children’s Village – Directions

December 21, 2007

Hey all,

The maps over at Naver.com don’t seem to show the exact location of the orphanage, but it’s really easy to find once you get to the little country road that leads there.

Here is the address in Korean you can print off/write down/say to the taxi driver:

순천SOS어린이마을 순천시 와룡동 TEL 061-752-7566

(English: Suncheon SOS O-rini – Ma-ul – (Wa-ryong-dong))

It’s been around for a long time, so most taxi drivers know it.

Anyhoo, if you are in front of City Hall with it to your left. Head straight in that direction till the main interesection. Continue through the traffic lights, cross the river (see map) and turn left at the Hyundai Apt.complex. Follow that road for, I’d say about 10minutes and you’ll see the orphanage on your left. It’s big and colourful, blue and yellow I think and you can’t miss it. Hope the map is ok. Best I can do right now!

Sunday, December 16th – GAME TIME!

December 14, 2007

Hey all,

Here’s a copy and paste of Aodan’s post, just in case you missed it.

Hey Guys,
We have our penultimate soccer match of the year this Sunday at 1 pm at our home ground in Gwannyang Eup. We are playing against the team that we had a few problems with a couple of weeks back. I’m hoping that we will be out there by 12.15 pm and thus will be willing to share a taxi with people from Kims between 11.50 and 11.55 am. We will be missing both Daragh and Daniel. Are there any others who will not be able to attend? Please let me know if you are in. Thanks a lot.”

Oh and your Friday’s funny is here…
